Half-up Double Twisted Braid Tutorial

It’s been a minute since I shared some hair fun on the blog! Since I can always find a reason to have fun with hair, I wanted to share this pretty do that comes together faster than it looks! This style, honestly, would work with most lengths, but especially well with medium to long.

Life’s too short to have boring hair…. so let’s go!

Picture 1: Begin by dividing hair at your part. On one side of your part, grab one small section in the front and divide it into three even sections. Remember to leave any face framing pieces you want out if you prefer some pieces around the face.

Picture 2: Cross the right side under the middle section and then cross the left under the middle- which is now the right side. (nothing fancy here just a standard Dutch or inside out braid) Add a small amount of hair to the right side and cross under the middle again, repeat on the other side. Continue down until you get about 3-4 sections braided, then stop grabbing extra hair and finish braiding until the end of that section.

Picture 3: Secure your braid with a small elastic and gently pull on your braid pieces starting at the bottom and working your way to the top to create a looser, larger braid.

Picture 4: Once both sides are braided, secure both with an elastic. The small ones work best here.

Picture 5: Criss-cross the braids once and twist the braids in a circular motion similar to making a bun. Trust the process here and place it at the lower crown of the head. You can see this in Picture 6.

Picture 7: Pull on your braids again to loosen the pieces just a bit more and secure it with bobby pins. I like to secure the pieces closest to the head to hide the bobby pins as much as possible. Be sure to tuck the end pieces with the elastics into the bun to hide them and secure them with a bobby pin.

Picture 8: Take the sections that are down and begin curling small sections at a time. I personally like to use a flatiron for this to give a softer wave/ curl. You can definitely use a curling iron here if you prefer.

Picture 9: If you use a flatiron, start close to the head and spin the hair once. Then gently pull the iron down the strand, leaving the ends out. Allow the hair to cool before breaking the curls gently with your fingers. That’s IT!

This style comes together pretty quick and looks super cute! You can use it for school dances or weddings or if you’re just feeling like you wanna have pretty hair for the day! Make it your own and have fun with it! Hair doesn’t have to be complicated! If you do try this style, I’d love to hear how it went for you!

XOXO-
